WINFIELD, Kan. — The Southwestern College women's basketball team returned to Stewart Field House on Wednesday evening for a Conference matchup against Evangel University, but the Lady Builders dropped a 98-44 decision to the Valor.
Evangel (12-1, 9-0) set the tone early, opening the game with a strong first-quarter push to take a 27-14 lead. Southwestern showed flashes on the offensive end in the opening period but struggled to find rhythm in the second quarter, managing four points as the Valor extended the margin to 52-18 at halftime.
Southwestern (4-11, 0-9) continued to compete after the break, finding more consistency offensively in the second half. The Lady Builders scored 11 points in the third quarter and added 15 more in the fourth, matching their highest single-quarter output of the game late.
Breanna Goad paced Southwestern with 10 points, while Macey Pond and Allyson Frank contributed nine points apiece. Kennedy Ford added eight points, including a pair of three-pointers in the opening quarter.
Evangel shot 47.3 percent from the field and held a 46-29 edge on the glass. The Valor also took advantage of turnovers, scoring 44 points off 27 Southwestern miscues.
Southwestern will continue KCAC play on Saturday, Jan. 10, traveling to McPherson College for a 1 p.m. tipoff in McPherson, Kansas.
