WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern College goes back on the road Saturday for another conference test, traveling to McPherson College for a 1 p.m. tip at Holman Fieldhouse.
It's the second meeting this season between the Lady Builders and Bulldogs. McPherson took the first matchup 70-66 on Nov. 15 in Winfield, using a fast start and a 39-20 halftime lead before Southwestern stormed back in the second half.
Senior guard Macey Pond fueled the rally with a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds, and she also handed out four assists. Kennedy Ford added 13 points and four rebounds, and Breanna Goad finished with 11 points while going 6-for-6 at the free-throw line. McPherson was paced by Olivia Bell's game-high 23 points, while Mikah Hammerquist hit five 3-pointers and scored 18 off the bench.
Southwestern (4-11, 0-9) enters the weekend aiming to turn recent progress into results. The Lady Builders are averaging 60.7 points per game and allowing 77.8. Southwestern has leaned on its perimeter shooting (7.3 made 3s per game), but will be looking for cleaner possessions after averaging 16.0 turnovers per contest.
Pond leads the Lady Builders at 15.9 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. Goad is averaging 10.7 points and has knocked down a team-high 33 3-pointers, while Ford is scoring 10.0 points per game and pulling down 5.5 rebounds.
McPherson (7-8, 2-7) is averaging 65.5 points per game while allowing 73.3. The Bulldogs are led overall by Maizen Gillam (10.6 ppg) and Olivia Bell (9.5 ppg). In conference games, Gillam has been McPherson's top scorer at 14.0 points per game.
Saturday's game also continues a long-running series. Southwestern holds the all-time edge (30-14 dating to 2005), though McPherson has won eight of the last 10 meetings, including the first matchup this season. The Lady Builders won two of three against the Bulldogs last season, highlighted by a 59-57 win in Winfield on Jan. 11, 2025.
Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. Saturday in McPherson.
