WINFIELD, Kan. — The Southwestern College men's soccer team returns home Saturday for a KCAC matchup against Bethel College at Richard L. Jantz Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
Southwestern enters the match with a 1-4 conference record after a close midweek contest against Oklahoma Wesleyan. The Moundbuilders held the nationally ranked Eagles to one goal in a 1-0 loss, with the deciding score coming on a penalty kick.
Bethel enters Saturday at 0-3-1 in KCAC play. The Threshers are also coming off a matchup against Oklahoma Wesleyan, falling 11-0 in their most recent contest.
Bernabe Lopez leads Southwestern with five points this season, recording two goals and one assist through nine appearances. Lopez has taken seven shots, with four landing on goal.
Adrian Gimenez has also scored twice for the Moundbuilders while starting all nine matches. Gimenez has recorded eight shots, including four on goal, and has one game-winning goal this season.
Cooper Bates leads Southwestern with three assists. Bates has started all nine matches and has played 686 minutes while helping create scoring opportunities for the Moundbuilders.
Christian Banda has added another goal for Southwestern through nine appearances. Banda has taken four shots and placed three on goal.
Bethel has several offensive threats entering Saturday's matchup. Branden Balvanz has recorded two goals and three assists for seven points through eight matches. He has placed five of his six shots on goal.
Erwin Navarro also has seven points with three goals and one assist. Navarro has taken nine shots and put six on goal through eight appearances.
Connell Silmon has matched Navarro with three goals and one assist for seven points. Silmon leads Bethel with 16 shots and has placed eight on goal.
Hugo Duran has added one goal while starting all eight matches for the Threshers. He has taken nine shots, including three on goal.
Southwestern will look to build on its defensive performance against Oklahoma Wesleyan as the Moundbuilders return to Richard L. Jantz Stadium for another conference contest.
Kickoff between Southwestern and Bethel is set for 5 p.m. Saturday in Winfield.
