WINFIELD, Kan. — The Southwestern College men's soccer team returns to the road Wednesday for a Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup against Avila University at Zarda Multisport Complex in Kansas City, Missouri.
Southwestern enters the match with a 2-4 conference record and will look to build on momentum from Saturday's 2-0 victory over Bethel College.
The Moundbuilders scored once in each half against the Threshers. Denis Martinez opened the scoring in the 26th minute, finishing an opportunity off an assist from Cooper Bates to give Southwestern a 1-0 lead.
Francesco Rocchelli added to the advantage in the 70th minute, scoring off an assist from Bernabe Lopez to make it 2-0.
Southwestern has had several players contribute offensively throughout the season. Lopez leads the Moundbuilders with six points through 10 matches, recording two goals and two assists. Bates leads the team with four assists while starting all 10 matches.
Adrian Gimenez has added two goals and four points while recording 10 shots, including four on goal. Nicola Antiglio, Christian Banda, Martinez and Rocchelli have each contributed one goal this season.
Banda has placed four of his five shots on goal, while Martinez has recorded four shots on goal in nine matches. Luke Anderson and Eamon Shaw have each added an assist.
Avila enters Wednesday's matchup with a 2-3-1 conference record and is coming off a 5-2 victory over Sterling College.
James Martin has been one of Avila's top offensive threats this season, recording four goals and eight points in five appearances. Martin has scored on four of his six shots and has placed five attempts on goal.
Deagen Loomis has added two goals and one assist for five points. Beck Snowden and Weston Waldron have each scored twice and recorded four points.
Snowden has placed nine of his 11 shots on goal, while Waldron has recorded six shots on goal. River Howard has also contributed one goal, while Jake Wood has scored once.
Southwestern will also look to repeat its success from the last meeting between the two programs. The Moundbuilders hosted Avila in the previous matchup and earned a 1-0 victory over the Eagles.
Both teams enter Wednesday coming off conference wins as Southwestern looks to continue building momentum during the heart of KCAC play.
Southwestern and Avila are scheduled to kick off at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Zarda Multisport Complex in Kansas City, Missouri.
