WINFIELD, Kan. — The Southwestern College football team will look to extend its six-game winning streak Saturday, Nov. 7, when the Moundbuilders host the University of Saint Mary in a Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Bissell Division matchup at Richard L. Jantz Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Southwestern enters the contest with an 8-1 overall record and a perfect 3-0 mark in divisional play. The Moundbuilders have an opportunity to secure the KCAC Bissell Division championship and an automatic bid to the NAIA Football Championship Series with a victory over Saint Mary and a Kansas Wesleyan University loss to McPherson College.
The Moundbuilders are coming off a 27-24 victory over McPherson, extending their winning streak to six games. Southwestern has also remained unbeaten at home this season, posting a 4-0 record at Jantz Stadium.
Offensively, Southwestern has averaged 448.8 yards per game, including 251.1 rushing yards and 197.7 passing yards. The Moundbuilders have scored 328 points through nine games while averaging 36.4 points per contest.
Christian Steward leads Southwestern's rushing attack with 981 yards and 10 touchdowns, averaging 109 yards per game. Quarterback Jamie Odom has thrown for 1,672 yards and 15 touchdowns while adding 425 rushing yards and seven scores on the ground.
Bryce Chambers leads the receiving corps with 42 receptions for 631 yards and five touchdowns.
Defensively, Southwestern has limited opponents to 273.6 total yards and 16.3 points per game. The Moundbuilders have recorded 16 interceptions and recovered 11 fumbles this season.
Adrian Avelar leads the defense with 53 tackles, while Isaiah Yehudah has recorded 49 tackles, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
Saint Mary enters Saturday's matchup seeking its first victory of the season, holding an 0-9 overall record and an 0-4 mark in conference play.
The Spires average 15 points per game while allowing 42.9. Offensively, Saint Mary has relied heavily on its rushing attack, averaging 184.4 yards per game.
Kameron Smith leads the Spires with 701 rushing yards and five touchdowns, while Damarkus McCoy has contributed 585 rushing yards and three scores.
Defensively, Saint Mary is led by Amir Akins with 71 tackles, followed by Wyatt Ramsey with 67.
With postseason implications surrounding Saturday's contest, Southwestern will look to remain unbeaten in divisional play and move one step closer to securing a KCAC Bissell Division championship.
