Lady Builders Drop Doubleheader to Eagles

WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern dropped both ends of a Saturday doubleheader to Southwestern Christian, falling 12-0 in five innings in the opener before a 13-1 five-inning loss in the nightcap.

The Lady Builders move to 4-4 on the season following the two contests.

The Eagles struck early and never let up in the first game of the day. Southwestern was limited to three hits as Southwestern Christian used a big third inning to secure the run-rule victory.

Tiara Henry, Taylor Mesna and Fayth Howard each recorded a hit for the Lady Builders. Henry also drew a walk, accounting for two of Southwestern's four baserunners in the contest.

Southwestern Christian scored two runs in the first and added one in the second before breaking the game open with six runs in the third. The Eagles tacked on three more runs in the fourth to close out the game.

Faith Campbell started in the circle and allowed three runs over two innings while striking out one. Jaidyn Soldin worked the final two innings, surrendering nine runs — two earned — on nine hits.

Hannah Keele led Southwestern Christian with a 4-for-4 performance, driving in three runs and stealing four bases. Jessie Moralez, Kelsie McCollom and Kylah Daniel each homered for the Eagles, who finished with 14 hits. Jessica Czikra earned the win with four scoreless innings.

A five-run first inning set the tone in the second game as Southwestern Christian completed the sweep with a 13-1 win.

The Eagles plated five runs in the opening frame and added one in the second and two in the third before pulling away with five more runs in the fourth.

Southwestern got on the board in the top of the third when Taylor Mesna singled and later scored on Henry's RBI base hit. Mackenzie Reinert and Aubrey Allison also added hits as the Lady Builders totaled four in the game.

Emma Willesden took the loss, pitching four innings and allowing 13 runs — 10 earned — on 14 hits while striking out three.

Ebony Garza paced Southwestern Christian with three hits, while Hailey Kuhlman drove in three runs and scored three times. Lainey King earned the win after striking out eight in four innings of work.

Southwestern will look to bounce back on Tuesday, Feb. 24, when it hosts Avila for a doubleheader at 3 and 5 p.m. in Winfield.
