Moundbuilders Rally for 11-Inning Win, Braves Take Series at Alumni Park


OTTAWA, Kan. — Southwestern College dropped two of three games to Ottawa University in a KCAC series at Alumni Park, highlighted by an extra-inning victory in the middle game.

Game 1: Ottawa 14, Southwestern 4

Southwestern struck early with four runs in the first inning but could not sustain the momentum in a 14-4 loss.

Daniel Larson delivered the Moundbuilders' lone hit, a two-run single in the opening frame. Southwestern capitalized on eight walks in the inning to build the early lead.

Ottawa answered with one run in the second before erupting for eight runs in the third. Julius Ryan led the Braves with a home run, double and five RBIs, while Jose Vega added three hits, including a home run. Jeremy Freeman contributed a run-scoring hit as Ottawa finished with 12 hits.

Luis Diaz earned the win in relief for Ottawa, tossing 6 1/3 scoreless innings with seven strikeouts.

Game 2: Southwestern 9, Ottawa 8 (11 innings)

Southwestern responded with a resilient 9-8 win in 11 innings.

Koda Larsen paced the offense, going 2 for 5 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored. Sam Benz added two hits and scored twice, and Raisean Dorsey recorded two hits, including a double. Mitch Meinen also had two hits as the Moundbuilders totaled 12.

Preston Carrillo scored twice and drove in a run, while Daniel Larson added two RBIs.

After Ottawa built an early four-run lead and later stretched its advantage to 8-4, Southwestern rallied with four runs in the eighth inning to tie the game. The Moundbuilders then pushed across the go-ahead run in the 11th.

Jaxon Burns earned the win in relief, throwing 2 1/3 scoreless innings to close it out.

Jeremy Freeman led Ottawa with three hits and four RBIs, while Jalen Ryan collected three hits. Julius Ryan added two doubles.

Game 3: Ottawa 10, Southwestern 0

Ottawa secured the series with a 10-0 win in six innings.

The Braves scored seven runs in the second inning and added three more in the sixth. Julius Ryan and Jeremy Freeman each had two hits and two RBIs, while Declan Brown doubled and drove in two runs. Jose Vega added a triple.

Southwestern was limited to two hits, one apiece from Sam Benz and Preston Carrillo.

Adrian Quintana earned the complete-game shutout for Ottawa, striking out seven over six innings.

Southwestern now stands at 5-13 overall and 2-7 in KCAC play following the series, while Ottawa improved to 16-3 and 9-2 in conference action.

SC will be back in action on Tuesday at the Builders travel to Oklahoma Wesleyan. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
