WINFIELD, Kan. — Brooke Reed caught a 2-yard touchdown pass from Kennedi Hayes in the second quarter, and Southwestern College made it stand up in a 7-0 win over William Woods on Saturday night at Richard L. Jantz Stadium.
Southwestern (Kan.) scored with 8:49 left before halftime after a pass-interference penalty set the Moundbuilders up at the 2-yard line. Andrea Moon added the extra point.
The Moundbuilders' defense did the rest, sacking William Woods quarterback Shamya Williams four times and holding the Owls to 154 total yards. Moon led the pressure with three sacks, and Kennedy Wesley added a sack for Southwestern.
William Woods threatened late in the first half, reaching the Southwestern 24, but turned it over on downs. The Owls' best play was a 44-yard completion from Williams to Giselle Soltero, who finished with 74 receiving yards.
Hayes threw for 68 yards and a touchdown and ran for 69 yards on 12 carries for Southwestern, which totaled 143 yards but held William Woods without a point despite five red-zone trips.
The Builders will be on the road next week on March 4th againist Hesston College at 6pm.
