Lady Builders set for road rematch with No. 17 Evangel

WINFIELD, Kan.— Southwestern College women's basketball continues conference play Wednesday, Feb. 11th, staying on the road for a KCAC matchup against No. 17 Evangel University at 5:30 p.m. in Springfield, Missouri.

The game marks the second meeting of the season between the Lady Builders and the Valors and the sixth matchup overall since the programs first met in 2021. Evangel has won all five previous meetings, including a 98-44 victory on Jan. 7 in Winfield, Kansas.

Evangel enters the contest at 20-2 overall and 17-1 in KCAC play, boasting one of the most potent offenses in the conference at 92.0 points per game while holding opponents to 67.9. Southwestern is 4-20 overall and 0-18 in league action, continuing to search for its first conference win of the season.

In the Jan. 7 meeting, Evangel took control early, opening a 27-14 lead after the first quarter and extending the margin to 52-18 by halftime. The Valors shot 47.3% from the field, forced 27 turnovers and converted those miscues into 44 points, while also outscoring Southwestern 52-18 in the paint and 57-6 off the bench.

Carson Dillard led Evangel with 14 points, Ali Kamies added 11 and Cassidy Hambelton finished with 10 points and four assists. Brooklyn Kearbey scored 12 points off the bench, while Heaven Shockley contributed across the stat sheet with six rebounds, five assists and four blocks.

Southwestern was led by Breanna Goad with 10 points, followed by Macey Pond and Allyson Frank with nine points apiece. The Lady Builders struggled offensively, shooting 25.4% from the field and 20.0% from 3-point range, but were efficient at the free-throw line at 88.9%.

Historically, the series has favored Evangel, which holds a 5-0 record against Southwestern. The Valors have won three times in Winfield, once in Springfield and once at a neutral site. The closest contest came on Feb. 11, 2025, when Evangel edged Southwestern 71-68 in Winfield. Evangel's largest margin of victory in the series came earlier this season with the 54-point win. Southwestern is averaging 61.2 points per game in the series, while Evangel has averaged 90.6.

Evangel's attack is led this season by Shockley (14.9 points, 6.9 rebounds per game), Dillard (14.0 points per game, 41.4% from 3-point range) and Kamies (12.4 points per game). Hambelton adds 12.1 points per game and leads the team in assists, helping the Valors average nearly 20 assists per contest.

For Southwestern, Pond leads the team at 16.2 points and 9.4 rebounds per game. Goad follows at 10.2 points per game and shoots over 90% at the free-throw line, while Kennedy Ford averages 11.0 points per game and is shooting 37.9% from beyond the arc. Martha De La Rosa adds 9.5 points per game and leads the Lady Builders in made 3-pointers.

Southwestern will look to limit turnovers and control the defensive glass against an Evangel team that ranks among the conference leaders in steals and rebounding margin. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Wednesday as the Lady Builders aim to take a step forward against a ranked conference opponent.
