WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern College will look to keep its momentum going as the Builders' flag football team faces Hesston College on Wednesday, March 4th at 6pm in Heston, Kansas for the next matchup.
Southwestern is coming off a 7-0 victory on Feb. 28 at Richard L. Jantz Stadium, getting the game's only score with 8:49 left in the second quarter when Kennedi Hayes connected with Brooke Reed on a 2-yard touchdown pass. Andrea Moon added the extra point.
Hayes went 7 of 22 passing for 68 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions, and also led the Builders on the ground with 69 rushing yards on 12 carries. Mary Jones had 43 receiving yards on two catches, including a long gain of 39 yards.
The Builders' defense set the tone, recording four sacks for 31 yards. Moon led Southwestern with three sacks and three tackles for loss, helping the Builders hold the opponent scoreless and control the ball for 24:14.
Hesston enters the matchup after falling 39-6 on Feb. 28. The Larks were held to 98 total yards, including minus-8 rushing yards, and completed 14 of 37 passes for 106 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
Hesston's offense was led by quarterback Alexis Pabon, who threw for 106 yards and a touchdown on 14-for-37 passing. Mikayla Lucas paced the receiving group with 38 yards on three catches, while Akiva Brown added 32 yards on four receptions.
Defensively, Hesston was led by Emma Pfannenstiel with six tackles and four tackles for loss, and the Larks recorded four sacks for 25 yards.
The matchup pairs a Southwestern defense coming off a shutout with a Hesston unit looking to rebound after allowing five passing touchdowns.
