WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern was swept in a KCAC softball doubleheader at Kansas Wesleyan on Saturday, falling 8-0 in six innings in the opener and 5-0 in Game 2.
The Moundbuilders (5-19, 1-11 KCAC) were limited offensively throughout the day, totaling just four hits across the two contests.
In Game 1, Southwestern scattered three hits but could not push a run across. Tiara Henry, Lainey Hardman and Ellie Kucera each recorded a hit for the Moundbuilders.
Kansas Wesleyan used a three-run third inning to break the game open after scoring once in the first. The Coyotes added two runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to end the game early.
Faith Campbell took the loss in the circle, allowing eight runs on 11 hits over 5.2 innings.
In Game 2, Southwestern was held to just one hit, coming from Jolie Boyd, as the Moundbuilders were shut out for the second straight game.
Kansas Wesleyan again jumped ahead early, scoring two runs in the second inning and adding one in the third. The Coyotes tacked on two more in the fifth to secure the sweep.
Emma Willesden went the distance for Southwestern, allowing five runs on 14 hits while striking out one over six innings.
Southwestern will look to regroup on March 30 when it travels to Springfield, Missouri, to face Mission University.
