BARTLESVILLE, Okla — Southwestern College dropped a road matchup to Oklahoma Wesleyan University, 15-7, on Tuesday afternoon in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
The Moundbuilders (7 runs on 11 hits) showed early resilience, responding after falling behind two runs with to tie the game at 2-2 in the third inning. Sam Benz homered and Garrett Richards drove in Koda Larsen off a single to left field to give the Moundbuilders early momentum.
Southwestern then surged in the fourth inning, as Braden Roberts and Cole Van Stone scored courtesy of a 2 RBI triple from Sam Benz, who scored on a sacrifice fly from Koda Larsen later in the inning to put the Builders up 5-2.
Oklahoma Wesleyan then responded with a huge seven-run, five-hit fourth inning, including an RBI double from Joseph Gutierrez to take control at 9-5.
A two-run sixth inning behind an RBI single from Garrett Richards and sacrifice fly from Ayden Markovich would cut the Eagles' lead to 2, but that would be the closest the Moundbuilders would come as Oklahoma Wesleyan ran away with it, scoring 3 runs in the next frame and adding another in the eighth inning.
Sam Benz led the offensive charge, finishing 2-for-6 with three RBIs.
Koda Larsen also had a productive day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, while Garrett Richards added a pair of hits and drove in two runs.
On the mound, Joseph Tredemeyer was charged with the loss, while Oklahoma Wesleyan's Alan Covarrubias earned the win in relief.
The Moundbuilders will look to bounce back on Thursday, April 16, when they travel to Hesston College for a 3:00 p.m. first pitch.
