SALINA, Kan. — Southwestern wrapped up its 2026 season this weekend at Kansas Wesleyan, showing offensive flashes across all three games despite dropping the series to the nationally ranked Coyotes.
The Moundbuilders (15-34, 9-27 KCAC) came out strong in Thursday's opener, plating seven runs in the first inning behind home runs from Sam Benz and Preston Carrillo.
Benz drove in three runs while Carrillo added four RBIs in the 18-8 final, as Southwestern jumped out early before Kansas Wesleyan rallied late.
In Saturday's first game, Southwestern continued to swing the bats well, totaling 13 hits in an 11-7 contest.
Braden Roberts delivered the highlight grand-slam home run in the second inning, and Benz added three hits at the top of the lineup. The Moundbuilders held the lead early and remained within striking distance throughout before Kansas Wesleyan pulled ahead in the middle innings.
The series finale saw Southwestern battle back after an early deficit, cutting the margin to 5-3 in the third inning on a three-run home run from Raisean Dorsey. Dorsey finished with two hits and all three RBIs for the Moundbuilders, who continued to compete late in a 10-3 final.
Across the series, Southwestern's lineup produced 18 runs and showed consistency at the plate, including double-digit hits in Game 2 and multiple home runs throughout the weekend.
The series marked the conclusion of the Moundbuilders' 2026 campaign, as the team looks ahead to building on its returning core and offensive momentum.
