BETHANY, Okla. — Southwestern College closed out its nonconference schedule Saturday afternoon with a 4-0 loss to Southwestern Christian University at Cagle Family Soccer Field.
The Moundbuilders move to 0-4 overall following their final nonconference matchup of the season. Southwestern Christian improved to 4-0.
The Eagles found the net three times in the opening 11 minutes, but Southwestern settled into the match and kept Southwestern Christian off the board for more than 67 minutes before the Eagles added their final goal late in the second half.
Southwestern finished with one shot, which came from Luke Anderson in the 40th minute and was placed on goal. Elias Martinez provided 63 minutes off the bench for the Moundbuilders, while Adrian Gimenez and Cooper Bates each logged 60 minutes. Southwestern was also credited with six saves in goal while facing 20 total shots and 10 shots on goal from the Eagles.
Southwestern Christian opened the scoring just 25 seconds into the match when Charles Jones scored off an assist from Curtis Clarke. Lucas Giacomini followed with a goal in the fifth minute, assisted by Gabin Desplats, before Clarke found the back of the net in the 11th minute off an assist from Marcos Arranz.
The Moundbuilders held the Eagles scoreless for the remainder of the first half and through much of the second. Nicolas Falco eventually added Southwestern Christian's final goal in the 79th minute off an assist from Lucas Ellis.
Clarke led the Eagles with a goal and an assist while recording three shots. Falco finished with three shots, two on goal and one goal, while Alessio Purnelle also recorded three shots with two on goal. Giacomini and Jones each added a goal. Goalkeeper Axel Tricot played all 90 minutes, recorded one save and earned the shutout.
Southwestern now turns its attention to Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference play. The Moundbuilders will return home Wednesday, Sept. 16, to open conference action against Friends University at Richard L. Jantz Stadium in Winfield, Kansas. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
