YORK, Neb. — The Southwestern College men's soccer team continued Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference play Saturday, falling 3-0 to York University.
York opened the scoring in the seventh minute as Asaph Achero found the back of the net at the 6:36 mark. Fionn Brereton added a second goal in the 18th minute, sending the Panthers into halftime with a 2-0 advantage. Achero scored his second goal of the match in the 57th minute to complete the scoring.
Southwestern continued to create opportunities throughout the match and finished with a 7-6 advantage in total shots. The Moundbuilders also held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks, including three in the second half.
Noah El-Masri, Cooper Bates and Eamon Shaw each recorded a shot on goal for Southwestern. El-Masri finished with two total shots, while Shaw also recorded two attempts. Bates added another scoring opportunity for the Builders.
The Moundbuilders continued applying pressure late in the second half. Shaw had an attempt stopped in the 86th minute before Bates followed with a shot that was saved moments later. El-Masri added another opportunity in the 88th minute, and Southwestern earned three corner kicks over the final eight minutes.
The result moves Southwestern to 0-2 in KCAC play.
The Moundbuilders return to conference action Wednesday, Sept. 23, traveling to Leavenworth, Kansas, to face the University of Saint Mary. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Charles Berkel Memorial Stadium.
