WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern College football will make its 2026 debut at Richard L. Jantz Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 5, when the Moundbuilders host Tabor College at 7 p.m.
Southwestern returns home following a 48-14 victory over Bethel College in its season opener. After a scoreless first quarter, the Moundbuilders took a 12-0 lead into halftime before scoring 29 points in the third quarter to pull away.
Southwestern totaled 685 yards of offense, including 504 on the ground, while averaging 9 yards per play. The Moundbuilder defense held Bethel to 258 total yards and just 55 rushing yards.
Jamie Odom led the rushing attack with 178 yards and a touchdown, while Christian Steward added 157 yards and two scores. Wayne Carter Jr. contributed 86 yards and a touchdown, highlighted by a 77-yard run. Odom also threw for 164 yards and a touchdown.
The Southwestern defense forced four turnovers, including three interceptions, while limiting Bethel to 2.1 yards per rushing attempt.
Tabor enters the matchup following a 41-28 victory over Sterling College. The Bluejays finished with 412 yards of offense, splitting the production evenly with 206 rushing yards and 206 passing yards. Tabor also converted 11 of 19 third-down opportunities.
Keyan Miller led Tabor with 101 rushing yards and a touchdown, while Jerome Stewart rushed for 61 yards and threw for 142 yards and a score. Tyson Dozhier led the receiving corps with 79 yards, including a 52-yard touchdown.
Tabor also made an impact on special teams and defense, returning a fumble for a touchdown while producing several long returns. The Bluejays responded after Sterling took a 28-27 lead in the fourth quarter, scoring two touchdowns over the final 6:19 to secure the win.
The Moundbuilders will now have an opportunity to defend their home field and move to 2-0 when the two teams meet Saturday night at Richard L. Jantz Stadium. After a 28-21 win last year, Southwestern will face a hungry Bluejay squad looking to make an early statement.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday at Richard L. Jantz Stadium in Winfield.
