LAWRENCE, Kan. — Southwestern College volleyball will return to action Saturday, Sept. 5, for a nonconference matchup against Haskell Indian Nations University at Tony Coffin Sports Complex in Lawrence, Kansas.
First serve is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
Southwestern enters the match with a 3-3 record after going 2-0 on Friday, Sept. 4th at the Haskell Invitational with wins over Cottey College and Philander Smith University. Haskell enters Saturday at 2-9 overall.
The Builders have shown improved balance through their first six matches, averaging 10.60 kills, 9.80 assists, 1.96 service aces, 16.08 digs and 1.36 blocks per set. Southwestern is hitting .147 as a team while holding opponents to a .135 hitting percentage.
Macey Collier has emerged as one of Southwestern's most efficient offensive weapons, leading the team with 56 kills while hitting .303. Kamryn Deffebaugh has added 40 kills.
Natalie Blaufuss has directed the offense with 125 assists, averaging 5.00 per set, while Ayden Joely-Petroff has added 69 assists. Blaufuss also leads the Builders with 11 service aces.
Defensively, Brooklyn Milleson leads Southwestern with 102 digs and averages 4.08 per set. Ariel Heinrich has added 66 digs, while Collier and Haleigh Weber have helped control the net. Collier leads the team with 17 total blocks, while Weber has 15.
Haskell has relied on a pair of strong offensive options in Tressa Jim and Mya Dalgai. Jim leads the Indians with 108 kills and averages 2.70 kills per set, while Dalgai has 91 kills and is hitting .332.
Dalgai also provides Haskell with a strong presence at the net, recording a team-high 25 total blocks. Jaspen Ellenwood has handled a large portion of the setting duties with 166 assists and leads the team with 19 service aces.
Haskell averages 9.57 kills and 14.20 digs per set while hitting .126 as a team. The Indians have also been aggressive from the service line, recording 81 aces through 40 sets.
The matchup could come down to Southwestern's ability to control Haskell's top attackers and limit opportunities from the service line. The Builders have been slightly more efficient offensively and have shown the ability to spread production across multiple hitters, while Haskell has leaned more heavily on Jim and Dalgai for its attack. Southwestern and Haskell last met Oct. 19, 2024.
Saturday's match will give Southwestern an opportunity to continue the momentum from its three-match winning streak and close out its weekend in Lawrence with another nonconference victory.
