MOORE, Okla. — Southwestern College put together an efficient offensive performance Tuesday night, sweeping Randall University 25-20, 25-23, 26-24 in a nonconference matchup.
The Moundbuilders improved to 4-4 overall with the victory, finishing the match with 44 kills on a .253 hitting percentage. Southwestern held Randall to 32 kills while the Saints hit .227.
Charli Richardson led the Southwestern attack with a match-high 15 kills while committing just three errors on 26 attempts for a .462 hitting percentage. Haleigh Weber added seven kills and hit .417, while Kamryn Deffebaugh recorded seven kills. Madison Perkins contributed five kills, and Macey Collier and Ayden Joely-Petroff each finished with four.
Southwestern established itself early, recording 13 kills in the opening set while holding Randall to a .103 hitting percentage. The Builders took the first set 25-20 before producing their best offensive set of the match in the second. Southwestern recorded 17 kills with just four errors on 33 attempts for a .394 hitting percentage to earn a 25-23 victory and take a 2-0 advantage.
The Saints made their strongest push in the third set as the teams battled through 12 ties and two lead changes. Southwestern overcame nine attacking errors in the frame and finished with 14 kills, doing enough late to secure a 26-24 victory and complete the three-set sweep.
Southwestern's setters helped keep the offense moving throughout the night. Kadance Heumann led the Builders with 23 assists, while Natalie Blaufuss added 10. Brooklyn Milleson anchored the defense with a match-high 11 digs, while Ariel Heinrich and Olivia DeLeon each collected eight.
The Builders also generated pressure from the service line, finishing with 11 aces. Heinrich led the way with six, while Joely-Petroff added two. Blaufuss, DeLeon and Collier each recorded one ace. Southwestern also totaled 39 digs in the victory.
Randall was led offensively by Kimberly Phelps with 10 kills and Jordan Hardesty with nine. Ella Seay added eight kills while hitting .438, but Southwestern limited the Saints to a .091 hitting percentage in the decisive third set.
Southwestern will return to action Saturday for a tri-match at AGFinancial Arena in Springfield, Missouri. The Builders will face Evangel University at 9:30 a.m. before taking on Stephens College at 11:30 a.m.
