Brad Griffin

Brad Griffin will be entering his 10th season at the helm of the Moundbuilders in 2025, after leading the team to three KCAC Conference Championships & three NAIA FCS Playoff appearances in the last four years. 2021 was the school's first conference championship in football since 1999. The team went 9-2 on the year and finished the campaign ranked No. 8 in the NAIA Postseason Poll. It was also the team's first appearance at the NAIA Football Championshp Series since 1999. This was the first time that the team has finished the season in the Postseason Top-25 since 1999. In 2024, the Builder's hosted and won its first NAIA FCS playoff game against the University of Saint Francis since 1998. Griffin is the winningest coach in Southwestern College football history with 65 total wins.

Taking over a program that was 1-10 the year before his arrival, Griffin has completely rebuilt the program to a National Powerhouse finishing the 2024 campaign ranked #13 in the NAIA postseason poll. The Builders have been ranked in the NAIA Top 25 for 46 of the last 50 polls spanning all the way back to 2020.

The 2017 season also saw the Southwestern program named as the KCAC Team of Character. The KCAC Team of Character award was based off of the NAIA Champions of Character award and recognizes a school in each sport, as voted on by their peer coaches.

Griffin was named the 28th Head Football Coach at Southwestern College in January of 2015. Prior to taking the reins at Southwestern, Griffin spent 11 seasons at William Penn University in Oskaloosa, Iowa where he served as the Defensive Coordinator while working with the Linebackers.

While at William Penn, he was a part of a staff that led the program to the first winning season since 1976 when the Statesmen finished 6-5 in 2005. Over the course of his 11 seasons at William Penn, the Statesmen were 73-50 and were Co-Conference Champions in 2010 and 2012. In 2011, Griffin was named the Midwest League Tri-Assistant Coach of Year after his unit led the league in scoring defense and was second in yardage.

He arrived at William Penn from Emporia State University where he was a running back on the football team from 1999-2000. Griffin graduated from Emporia in 2000 with a degree in physical education. He stayed on as a graduate assistant for two years before becoming a full-time assistant in 2003.

Before attending Emporia, Griffin attended Hutchinson Community College in Hutchinson, Kan., from 1996-1997, where he was also a running back. He served as an assistant coach for one season at Hutchinson before moving on to Emporia.

Griffin lives in Winfield with his wife Katie and daughters Brielle and Bayler.
