Shawn Henry joined the Southwestern College football coaching staff in 2026 as an assistant coach working with the Moundbuilders' tight ends. Henry brings more than 15 years of collegiate coaching experience to Southwestern, with experience on both sides of the ball as well as special teams, recruiting and program operations.
Prior to Southwestern, Henry spent two seasons at Cumberland University, where he coached the running backs and served as special teams coordinator, recruiting coordinator and equipment manager. He assisted in developing the weekly offensive game plan while coordinating the Phoenix special teams units. During his tenure, Henry coached three Mid-South Conference All-Conference running backs.
Henry previously spent two seasons at Doane University as defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach. He oversaw the Tigers' defensive game planning and coached a unit that produced six All-Great Plains Athletic Conference selections, including two defensive backs.
Before Doane, Henry spent five seasons at Waldorf University in a variety of roles, including co-defensive coordinator, associate head coach, defensive line coach and linebackers coach. In 2019, Waldorf finished 7-3, recording the best season in program history and earning a No. 23 national ranking. During Henry's time with the Warriors, he helped coach 18 North Star Athletic Association All-Conference selections, including seven defensive linemen and two linebackers.
Henry also spent four seasons at Culver-Stockton College, coaching tight ends, fullbacks, offensive line and defensive backs. His tenure included an All-Heart of America Athletic Conference tight end and an offense that ranked fifth nationally in total passing offense.
His extensive coaching career also includes multiple stops at SUNY Cortland, where he worked with the quarterbacks, offensive line and outside linebackers while assisting with offensive and defensive game planning. Henry was part of Cortland teams that went 10-2 in 2010 and 9-2 in 2012, with both advancing to the second round of the NCAA Division III playoffs. He began his collegiate coaching career at Alfred State College as an offensive and special teams assistant.
A native of Dansville, New York, Henry played quarterback collegiately at Alfred State, St. John Fisher College and Alfred University. He earned an associate degree in computer information systems from Alfred State in 2000 and a bachelor's degree in computer science from Alfred University in 2002.
