The 2023-24 season marks Jimmy McSorley's 5th season on the Southwestern College men's basketball coaching staff, and his second as the team's lead assistant.

McSorley's responsibilities have continued to grow during his time at Southwestern College, McSorley will lead all player development, recruiting and social media. Player development has been a staple of success at Southwestern College.  

McSorley helped develop 3 All-Americans and 14 All-Conference players during his tenure at Southwestern College. McSorley has been an integral part in recruiting high level players during his tenure including: one Freshman of the Year, one Newcomer of the year, two All-Americans and ten All-Conference players. 

McSorley has initiated and run a new and successful intersquad league adding additional value to the men's basketball program and overseeing the program's budget and various theme nights throughout the year.

McSorley has also helped Southwestern achieve excellence off the court and in the classroom. He has been a part of three NABC Team Academic Excellence Award and NAIA scholar teams (GPA above 3.0).

McSorley helped the builders reach back to back NAIA National Tournament appearances as well as a KCAC Tournament Championship in 2023 as well as another 20 win season, making this milestone three of the last four seasons.

McSorley is from St. Petersburg, Florida, where he coached high school basketball for four years at a high academic prep school. In his tenure, McSorley helped grow the program from a below .500 program to a three-peat district champion and a regional runner-up. McSorley was also a part of two separate historical seasons. The school record for wins in a season (23) was broken, and their first regional tournament victory since 1977.

McSorley was hands-on in the program, including offensive sets, scouting, player development, video coordinating, and academic monitoring. During the 2016-2017 season, Canterbury was recognized with the sportsmanship award for class 3A and earned the highest team GPA in Florida during the 2017-2018 season. McSorley has worked with several All-County and All-State players in his tenure through AAU or high school basketball and has helped numerous players from all over Florida continue to the collegiate ranks.

McSorley graduated from the University of South Florida – St. Petersburg with a bachelor's degree in criminology in 2018. He graduated with a master's degree in Leadership at Southwestern College in 2021.
