PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Southwestern College women's track and field team competed in the Rumble in the Jungle Last Chance Qualifier on Saturday in Pittsburg, Kan. The 4x400 Meter Relay team highlighted the meet for Southwestern, breaking a school record and qualifying for the NAIA Outdoor Nationals.
Kari Blattner, Taya' Buchanan, Justine Vogele, and Taylor Needham had a season-best performance in the 4x400 Meter Relay, running the race in 3:54.90. The team broke a school record that was set two years earlier. The 4x400 team also qualified for the NAIA Outdoor National Championships under the 'A' standard.
Blattner, Needham, and Vogele each placed in the top three for their individual events. Blattner placed third in the 800 Meter Run, Needham first in the 400 Meter Hurdles, and Vogele second in the 3,000 Meter Steeplechase.
The women's track and field team is heading to Gulf Shores, Ala. to compete in the NAIA Outdoor National Championships. The Championships start Thursday, May 25.
