SC Men's Golf Takes Title at Moundbuilder Spring Invitational, Johnson Places Second for Lady Builders

WINFIELD, Kan. – On Tuesday afternoon at Quail Ridge Golf Course in Winfield, Kan., the Southwestern College men's golf team battled with a list of eight colleges and universities at the 2022 Moundbuilder Spring Invitational. The squad followed up a brilliant day one where they shot a 304 as a squad with a 311 on a blisteringly windy day two on the links. Their final score of 615 was good enough to win the team title by six strokes.

The men's squad was led by an impressive performance from Aaron Delgado, who shot a combined seven-over-par 151 over the course of the two rounds. His first-round score came in at 75, while he shot a 76 in the more difficult of the two, due to the windy conditions. He finished in third place as an individual in the event.

Delgado was followed by Khord Vining (7th, +11, R1 73, R2 82, 155) and Jordan Butler (T-8th, +12, R1 79, R2 77, 156), as the other two Southwestern finishers in the top 10 of the field. Jefferson Cook finished in a tie for 11th place with a total score of 157. He shot a round of 81 in his first time through the course on Monday, and improved upon that score with a n impressive 76 on day two.

The SC women had Ashlee Johnson and Kylee Woffinden compete as individuals in the women's tournament, and Johnson was able to finish in the second-place position among those who competed. She shot a 19-over-par 163 over the course of the two days. Her better round was on day one, like so many others, as she shot a 77 in the opening 18 holes of the tournament. Her second day was not as impressive, as she shot an 86 on Tuesday.

The SC men will next appear at the Sterling Invitational, which will be held at Prairie Dunes in Hutchinson, Kan. on April 4-5. Following that final tune-up, both Moundbuilder squads will head to the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) Championships at Buffalo Dunes in Garden City, Kan. from April 17-20, hoping to extend their seasons to the NAIA National Championships in May.
