WICHITA, KAN. - On Wednesday afternoon, October 11, the Southwestern College men's soccer team traveled up north to battle their rivals of Friends University at Wichita, Kan. A game where the Builders were not able to stop the Falcons ended in a 5-2 loss for the Southwestern.
The game started in favor of the Falcons as they scored their first goal three minutes into the game. The Builders, not impressed by the early goal, were able to come back in the 14th minute as Mamadou Diarra scored the first goal for the Builders to tie the game, 1-1. Wilber Landaverde and Nalan Kentner assisted Diarra's goal.
The game continued, and the Falcons increased their pressure on the Builder's defense. As a result, the Falcons took back the lead in the 38th minute, 2-1 Friends. Just a few minutes later, the Falcons added another two goals to their score, both in the 42nd minute, to lead the game 4-1 at halftime.
Coming back after halftime, the Builders started with shots by Hector Hernandez and Diarra, who both missed their shots wide. Unfortunately, the Falcons scored the next goal in the 58th minute to improve their lead to 5-1. The Builders were able to score another goal in the 89th minute as Alejandro Ramos scored after an assist by Ivan Palacios. Ultimately, the Builders could not come back and had to take defeat against the Falcons of Friends University.
The Builders (5-7-0, 3-5-0) are now preparing to battle Sterling College on Friday, October 13, at Sterling, Kan., as the hope to return to the winning side.
