WINFIELD, Kan – October, 20, 2023, In a match that moved locations to Winfield High School, Southwestern College (9-12, 2-7) lost at home to the Spires of Saint Mary (17-8, 5-4) in three sets, 15-25, 19-25, 18-25.
The University of Saint Mary dominated the first set, 25-15. Their strong offensive performance, led by Madison Folsom's 10 kills, set the tone for the match. The Moundbuilders struggled to respond Saint Mary's efficient attack.
The University of Saint Mary claimed another win with a score of 25-19. SC's
Morgan Pulido did her part with 10 kills, but it was not enough to overcome the Spires' balanced attack, led by Rylee Kenitzer.
The third and final set saw the University of Saint Mary secure their clean sweep, 25-18. Despite a strong performance by
Emma Lincoln, nine kills and five blocks for the Builders wasn't enough to get over the edge.
Sophie Wicker's consistent play was reliable for 22 digs and
Avery Riedel delivered eight digs respectively. However, the University of Saint Mary's Macey Adams showcased her skills with 21 digs against the Builder attack.
Southwestern College, with a 9-12 overall record and a 2-7 conference record, will be back in action this Saturday, Oct. 28, at Stewart Field House, 1pm, taking on Kansas Wesleyan (21-8, 9-1).
