Volleyball Captures First Conference Win at Avila, 3-2

KANSAS CITY, Mo – Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2023, Southwestern College (8-8, 1-3) held on for their first conference win on the road against Avila University (4-11, 1-4), winning in five sets, 3-2.
 
The opening set saw Avila University take an early lead. With strong attacks and solid defense, they clinched the first set, 21-25.

In the second set, Southwestern came roaring back, 25-21. And found a way to battle through the third set and win a nail-biting affair, 26-24.

SC, looking to close it out in the fourth but with their backs against the wall, Avila came out swinging in the fourth set to win, 22-25.

In the final set, Southwestern College Moundbuilders showcased their resilience and tenacity. They took control early and never looked back, 15-10.

Baylee York had a strong offensive performance and led the team with 13 kills. Callie Snowbarger, Emma Lincoln, and Malieokekai Damate all had nine kills each for the match as well.

The Builders had four aces on the night, Reece Likes had 2, Sophie Wicker and Avery Riedel each had one.

Haley Shaw was all over stat sheet with 20 assists and 16 digs.

Baylee York secured the net with four blocks, Emma Lincoln had three, and Snowbarger added two.

Wicker led the team with 27 digs, and Morgan Pulido had 14 digs of her own.

 With the first conference win under their belt, the Builders will be on the road at McPherson College (12-6, 2-3), Saturday, Oct. 7 at 1pm.
