WINFIELD, KAN. – On Saturday, October 7th, the Southwestern College men's soccer team battled the visiting Bulldogs of McPherson College at Richard L. Jantz Stadium in Winfield, Kan. The Builder earned a hard-fought win, with the help of Mamadou Diarra, who scored a hat-trick, over McPherson College, 4-3.
The game started in favor of the Bulldogs as they took an early lead in the 5th minute to go up by one. The Builders did not wait long to respond as they scored the equalizer in the 8th minute when Mamadou Diarra scored after a corner kick by Hector Hernandez.
The game continued, and both teams had opportunities to take the lead. The Bulldogs used an attack in the 29th minute to add another goal to their score, 2-1 McPherson.
Coming back from halftime, the Builders had to act quickly to turn around the game in their favor. In the 50th minute, none other than Mamadou Diarra scored the equalizer again to start the comeback for the Builders. His goal was assisted by Reuben Kadanthottu.
The game continued, and both teams fought for the win. The Builders then subbed in Jack Etheridge, who took the ball, ran down the line, and assisted Diarra to change the score to 3-2 Builders. In the 84th minute, Coby Stroud added another goal for the Builder to improve the lead to 4-2. Just seconds later, the Bulldogs tried to come back as they added another goal to their score but could not equalize the game.
The Builders won the hard-fought battle against the visiting Bulldogs of McPherson to earn their third conference win.
Man of the Match Winner Mamadou Diarra led the Builders in shots (7), where 6 of them went on target.
The Builders (5-6-0, 3-4-0) are now preparing to face Friends University on Saturday, October 11th, at 8:30 p.m. in Wichita, Kan.
