SC Women's Basketball Falls to Oklahoma Wesleyan University, 70-66

BARTLESVILLE, OKLA – On Saturday, December 2nd, the Southwestern College women's basketball squad traveled south to battle the Eagles of Oklahoma Wesleyan University in Bartlesville, Okla. A close game where the Builders went head-to-head with the Eagles ended in a loss for Southwestern.

The Builders started the game off strong as they won the first quarter 16-14. Kennedy Ford led the offensive part of the Builders as she scored 12 points in the first quarter.

Going into the second quarter, the Builders kept pushing and improved their shooting percentages from the field (38.46%) and the 3-point line (66.67%). Saylee Smith made both 3-point attempts and earned eight points in the second quarter. Even though the Eagles won the second quarter 21-20, the Builders led the game at halftime, 36-35.

Coming out of the locker room, both teams continued to fight for victory. The Eagles used their momentum and won the third quarter 19-15 to take the game's lead. It all came down to the final quarter, where both teams went head-to-head for the win. With thirty seconds left in the game, the Builders were down by five points as Kennedy Ford made her 3-point attempt to bring the score to 66-68. Unfortunately, the Builders could not make the comeback and had to take defeat to the Eagles of Oklahoma Wesleyan.

Kennedy Ford impressed with an excellent performance as she led the team in points (28). She was followed by Saylee Smith, who made 13 points. Defensively, the Builders were led by Christy Wiebe, who had 11 rebounds.

The Builders (0-9,0-5 KCAC) are now preparing to face Bethel College on Wednesday, December 6th at 5:00 PM at Stewart Field House in Winfield, Kan., as they hope to earn their first win of the season.
