WICHITA, Kan. – Over the course of the last two days, the Southwestern College men's and women's outdoor track & field squads attended the Wichita State University K.T. Woodman College Classic in Wichita, Kan.
The event started for the Builders on Friday, when Gabby Murchison earned a 21st-place finish in the women's Javelin throw competition with a mark of 30.81m. She was followed by her teammate Lucy Daniel who finished 25th with a mark of 28.88m.
On the men's side it was Trevor Peterson who represented the Builders. He placed 22nd, throwing to a mark of 44.04m
Next up was the men's 1500-meter run. Mason Blochowiak paced the Builders with a 53rd-place finish, as he ran the 1500-meters in 4:18.16. His teammate Luis Bellor-Gardner had a time of 4:25.42 that placed him 62nd. In addition, Jamell Sanchez came in 75th, as he ran the competition in 4:50.21.
Moving on, Kirstin Hackney and Anzhelany Jordan competed in the women's 800-meter run. Hackney finished in 19th place with a time of 2:25.40. Her teammate Jordan completed the run in 2:48.26 and ended up being 46th.
On the men's side in the 800m, it was Tyshawn Brownfield who led the Builders. His time of 2:01.52 placed him 35th, while his teammate Gabe Vannucchi finished 54th with a time of 2:06.95.
Kacie Lancaster competed in the women's 5000-meter run and earned a personal-record time of 10:40.11 as she placed 43rd.
On the men's side, it was Austin Schaeffer and Jacob Baer who competed in the men's 5000-meter race. Schaeffer earned a 37th-place finish with a time of 15:38.89, whereas Baer finished 66th, running the 5k in 17:40.51.
To complete the Friday events, Meseret Elgin and Maliki Pope competed in the men's 10,000 Meter run. Elgin finished the 10k in 33:47.06 and placed 30th, while his teammate Pope ended up in the 34th position with a time of 34:05.07.
After a successful day on Friday, the Builders came back to Wichita on Saturday morning to continue competition at the K.T. Woodman College Classic.
Starting things off, Meliah Hanna led the Builders in the women's 400-meter dash. She earned a 21st-place finish with a time of 1:00.36, putting her just in front of her teammate Lauryn Terry who finished the race in 26th position.
The men's 400-meter dash was led by Brownfield, who placed 49th with a time of 51.72. His teammate Kyle Richardson earned the 55th position by running the 400 meters in 52.07 seconds. In addition, Antwone Crawford ended up being 69th with a time of 52.96, and his teammate Andrez Ramirez ran the race in 56.12, placing him in the 82nd position.
Hayden Boydston represented the Builders, as he competed in the men's 110-meter hurdles. He finished the race in 19th place with a time of 15.54.
Rachel Booker was the lone Builder who competed in the women's 100-meter dash. She finished in 26th place with a time of 12.60. On the men's side, it was Nick Jones who led the Builders in the men's 100-meter dash. He earned 29th place with a time of 10.94. His teammate Philip Jones finished 42nd with a time of 11.06. Tutu Nyamakope ran the race in 11.63 seconds, which placed him 80th. He was followed by teammate Isaiah Spears who ended up 85th with a time of 12.03.
Kentayshija Pruitt competed in the women's 400-meter hurdles and earned a top-20 finish, as she placed 16th with a time of 1:08.40.
N. Jones, Ramirez and Spears also competed in the men's 200-meter dash. N. Jones paced the Builders as he finished the race in 27th place with a time of 22.24. He was followed by Ramirez who placed 86th with a time of 24.35. His teammate Spears ran the 200 meters in 25.35 seconds and concluded the competition in 94th.
To complete Saturday's events, the women's and men's relay runners competed in the 4x400 meter relay races. The women's 4x400 meter relay, which was represented by Pruitt, Booker, Terry, and Hanna, finished in 5th place with a time of 4:05.15.
The men's 4x400 meter relay team was made up of Richardson, Boydston, Crawford, and Kiare Worthy. The team finished in 16th place with a time of 3:38.79.
The Builder track & field squads are now preparing to compete at the Bethel Invitational on Saturday, April 15 in North Newton, Kan. That competition will continue to help the Builders improve with the Tabor Invitational set for the following Saturday, and the Mike Kirkland SC Relays coming up at the end of the month.
