SEWARD, Neb. – On Friday morning, multiple Southwestern College outdoor track and field athletes made their way up north to compete at the Concordia Twilight meet in Seward, Neb., with hopes to have a final shot to earn a place at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. A weather delay halted the event for four hours at one point, making for a long day.
In the women's 100-meter dash, it was Rachel Booker who led the Builders, as she finished in fourth place with a time of 12.41. She was followed by her teammate Lauryn Terry, who came in fifth, as she ran the 100m in 12.67 seconds. Lily Blankenship ended up being 14th, earning a time of 13.26 seconds.Â
The men's 100-meter dash was led by Keyshawn Jones who earned a third-place finish, running the 100 meter in 10.74 seconds. His teammate, Kiare Worthy, finished in 13th place with a time of 11.03.Â
Worthy also competed in the 200-meter competition, where he supplied a sixth-place effort with a time of 22.13. Â
The women's 400-meter dash was led by Meliah Hanna, who sixth place, as she completed the 400 meters in 59.03 seconds. Â
In the men's 110 hurdles race, it was Hayden Boydston who represented the Builders as lone hurdler. He finished the race in 10th place with a time of 15.35 seconds. Â
To finish the day off for the Builders, Kentayshija Pruitt competed in the women's 400-meter hurdles race, where she earned sixth place. She finished the 400 meters in 1:05.85. Â
As the regular season comes to an end, the Builders are still preparing themselves, as several athletes earned the chance to compete at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships which starts on Wednesday, May 24th at Marion, Ind. Keyshawn Jones is the lone individual athlete who has qualified for Nationals, while both 4x100m Relay squads will also make the trip to Indiana. The women's squad consists of Blankenship, Kyah Hill, Booker and Terry. For the men, it will be K. Jones, Worthy, Nick Jones and Phil Jones who will represent Southwestern on the national stage.
