WINFIELD, KAN. - On Monday night, August 28, the Southwestern College men's soccer team fascinated the crowd with a 7-0 win against the visiting Saints of Randall University. A night where things started to go the right way from the beginning ended with the first win of the season for the men's soccer team.
The game started in favor of the Builders as
Mamadou Diarra scored a penalty kick goal in the 4
th minute of the game, to take an early lead in the game. The early goal did not come from nowhere. The Builder offense was pushing and kept attacking the Saints goal with shots by
Nalan Kentner,
Eduardo Gonzalez and
Jack Etheridge
In the 27
th minute,
Diarra used another chance to score his second goal of the game with an assist by teammate Ethridge.
Ethridge inspired by the goal did not wait long as he scored the third goal of the game just seconds after. Etheridge who improved the Builders lead to 3-0 was assisted by
Alejandro Ramos. A few minutes went by until
Coby Stroud scored another goal to improve the Builder lead to 4-0. Stroud's goal was assisted by
Diarra.
Coming back after halftime, the Builders started where they stopped in the first half. In the 47
th minute,
Mamadou Diarra scored a penalty kick to earn his hat trick and to improve the lead to 5-0 Builders. Not done yet,
Diarra continued his goal rush as he scored another goal that was assisted by
Etheridge.
To put the cherry on the cake,
Nalan Kentner scored a bicycle kick goal in the 68
th minute of the game to make the score a final 7-0 win for the Builders.
A strong Builder offense impressed with 28 shots where 14 went on target.
Diarra led the team in shots (8), followed by
Gonzalez (4) and
Stroud (4).
Alejandro Ramos and
Jack Etheridge both led the team in assists (2).
The Builders (1-1) are back in action on Wednesday, August 30, at 8:00 p.m. when they battle Oklahoma City University at Richard L. Jantz Stadium in Winfield, Kan.
