WINFIELD, KAN. – On Wednesday, January 17
th, the Southwestern College women's basketball squad faced a challenging Saint Mary team at Stewart Field House in Winfield, Kan., as they trailed the game 88-45.
Right from the start, the Spires gained control, establishing a commanding lead of 22-8 by the end of the first quarter. The Builders struggled with an 18.18% shooting accuracy, paling in comparison to the Spires' impressive 40.00% from the field.
In the second quarter, the Builders improved their shooting percentage to 23.08% from the field but could not stop the offensive power of the Spires as they continued to dominate the game with a score of 42-21 at halftime.
Undeterred, the Builders raised their field goal percentage to 26.67% in the third quarter, yet Saint Mary's strong offense persisted, securing a 20-12 advantage in that quarter alone. Despite adding 12 more points to their tally, Southwestern College couldn't contain Saint Mary, resulting in an ultimate 88-45 victory for the opposing team.
Hunter Garcia led the team in points (seven), followed by
Callie Scott (six) and
Saylee Smith (six).
Defensively, the Builders were led by
Christy Wiebe who earned eight rebounds.
The Builders will be back on Saturday, January 20
th when the face Evangel University at Stewart Field House in Winfield, Kan.
