WINFIELD, KAN. – On Saturday, January 20
th, the Southwestern College women's basketball squad hosted play to the Valors of Evangel University at the historic Stewart Field House in Winfield, Kan.
Despite a competitive start by the Builders, Evangel University emerged victorious with a final score of 96-68.
The opening quarter saw Southwestern taking an early lead with a score of 23-20, showcasing their offensive prowess. However, Evangel University quickly turned the tide in the second quarter, outscoring the Builders 23-11 and establishing control as they headed into halftime.
The third quarter proved to be a decisive period for Evangel University, extending their lead with a dominant performance of 30-19. The Builders fought hard, but the Valors maintained their momentum. In the final quarter, Evangel University continued their impressive display, outscoring Southwestern 23-15 and securing a convincing win.
Looking at the field goal percentages, Evangel University displayed impressive and consistent shooting throughout the game. They achieved a 43.75% success rate in the first quarter, an outstanding 50.00% in the second quarter, a remarkable 60.00% in the third quarter, and a solid 47.37% in the fourth quarter.
The Builders showcased their offensive capabilities as well, with a strong 52.63% field goal percentage in the opening quarter. However, they faced challenges in the second quarter with a lower percentage of 22.22%. In the third and fourth quarters, the Builders improved their shooting with percentages of 40.00% and 42.86%, respectively.
Offensively, the Builders were led by
Macey Pond who impressed with 16 points, followed by
Kennedy Ford who scored 15 points.
Macey Pond also led the team defensively, as she earned seven rebounds.
The Builders will be back in action on January 24
th, when they face the Bluejays of Tabor College at Hillsboro, Kan.
