NORTH NEWTON, Kan. — The Moundbuilders (7-1) put on a dominant performance defeating Bethel College (4-4), 41-14.
Quarterback
Braden Howell led the Moundbuilders' charge, completing 21 of 38 passes for 259 yards and five touchdowns, distributing scores to multiple receivers.
Bryce Chambers and
Matthew Holthusen each snagged two touchdown passes, with Chambers' longest catch of 43 yards putting Southwestern up in the second quarter. Holthusen added to the offensive fireworks with a 40-yard touchdown grab at the end of the half, sending Southwestern into the locker room with a 27-7 lead.
On the ground, Martez Jones kept the Bethel defense on edge, rushing eight times for 67 yards and adding a fourth-quarter touchdown. Running back
Christian Steward also scored, catching a 16-yard touchdown pass to extend Southwestern's lead.
The defense anchored Southwestern's success, forcing three interceptions and four sacks. Defensive backs
Deago Stubbs and
Noah Roberts each intercepted Bethel's quarterback, while linebacker
Isaiah Yehudah tallied a team-high 12 tackles. Southwestern's aggressive defense consistently pressured Bethel, limiting them to just 225 total yards.
Bethel's offense managed two touchdowns, but the Moundbuilders' balanced attack proved too strong, securing Southwestern's seventh win of the season and improving their record to 7-1.
The Moundbuilders are back at home Saturday, Nov. 2, Senior Day, hosting Bethany at 1 p.m.
