STERLING, Kan. — In a high-scoring affair on the road, Southwestern suffered another loss against Sterling College, 17-7.
Sterling took an early lead in the first inning with Andrew Dutro's double, setting the tone for the game. Although Southwestern managed to tie the score briefly in the second inning with Carlos Camacho's single, Sterling surged ahead with a commanding lead in subsequent innings.
Despite Southwestern's efforts to rally in the seventh inning, scoring four runs courtesy of Andrew Brown, Brice Nittler, Dante Bravo, and Luca Dincola, Sterling held off the Moundbuilder bats.
Southwestern's offensive highlights included a home run by Will Johannsen in the eighth inning. However, defensive struggles and errors hindered the Builder's ability to contain Sterling's potent offense.
Southwestern will be back in action, on the road in Leavenworth, Kan, against The University of Saint Mary, Friday, March 22, first pitch at 3pm.
