WINFIELD, KAN. – On Wednesday, March 27
th, the Southwestern College Baseball squad battle the Warriors of Sterling College at Broadway Sports Complex in Winfield, Kan. The Builders had to take defeat against the Warriors in a single nine inning game, 9-4.
Sterling College wasted no time asserting their offensive prowess, striking early in the 1st inning. A. Dutro kicked things off with a double to right center, bringing home L. Morales and setting the tone for the game. Shortly after, N. Keller capitalized on an error by the third baseman, advancing to second and bringing Dutro across the plate, extending the Warriors lead to 2-0.
Not to be outdone, the Builders fought back in the 2nd inning, with S. Espinoza driving in two runs with a clutch single to right field. However, Sterling College quickly responded, adding to their lead in the 2nd inning courtesy of L. Morales's timely single, scoring A. Santiago and N. Heffline.
Southwestern showed resilience, narrowing the gap in the 4th inning as S. Espinoza delivered once again, this time with a two-RBI single up the middle, bringing the score to 6-4.
However, Sterling's offense proved relentless, with N. Heffline crushing a homer in the 7th inning to widen the gap once more. A. Bisono added to the lead in the 8th inning with a double, scoring Dutro, while Morales sealed the deal in the 9th inning with another RBI single, securing Sterling College's victory.
The Builders will be back on Friday, March 29
th when they battle York University at York, Neb.
