WINFIELD, Kan. — Kennedy Ford delivered a dramatic buzzer-beater to lift Southwestern College to a 59-57 victory over McPherson College on Saturday at Stewart Field House. The game-winning jump shot as time expired secured the Moundbuilders second conference win of the season.
Trailing 38-37 heading into the fourth quarter, Southwestern (2-10, 2-8) outscored the Bulldogs 21-19 in the final period. The back-and-forth quarter featured multiple lead changes, setting the stage for a thrilling finish.
With the score tied at 57 and only five seconds remaining, Southwesterns  Ford received the pass, drove to the rim, and released a shot under the basket with two seconds left to go. the basketball hit all sides of the rim and fell in as the clock hit zero sealing the victory and igniting celebrations on the court.
Ford finished the game with 13 points and four rebounds. Macy Pond led the Moundbuilders with 17 points, connecting on five three-pointers, while Christy Wiebe added 15 points, contributing clutch baskets throughout the contest.
Southwestern's defense forced 12 turnovers in the second half, fueling a late surge that included a 7-0 run. The Moundbuilders also capitalized on three-point shooting, hitting nine shots from beyond the arc. The win provides a much-needed boost for Southwestern as they prepare for their next game In Wichita Kan against Friends Univirsity.
