STERLING, Kan.  – Southwestern College relied on strong defense and rebounding to secure a 61-42 victory over Sterling College.
The Moundbuilders set the tone early, shooting 35% from the field in the first half while holding Sterling to just 23.1%.
Wyatt Bell led Southwestern with 10 points in the opening period, supported by Justin DeMaria and Austin Hilton, who contributed six points each.
Southwestern's defense was a key factor, limiting Sterling to one player with more than five points in the first half and forcing six turnovers while committing only three.
The Moundbuilders maintained control throughout the game, out-rebounding Sterling 50-27.
Bell finished with 12 points and five assists, while DeMaria led all scorers with 15 points and added six rebounds. Hilton recorded nine points and seven rebounds, contributing to a balanced team effort.
Sterling struggled offensively, shooting 26.8% from the field and 19.0% (4-of-21) from three-point range. Mooch Austin led the Warriors with 11 points and three assists.
The Moundbuilders' bench contributed significantly, adding 32 points compared to Sterling's 13.
Southwestern shot 34.3% for the game and scored 24 points in the paint, compared to Sterling's 16. The win gives Southwestern momentum as they continue KCAC play
