WINFIELD, Kan. – Sterling College's women's basketball team delivered a commanding fourth-quarter performance to defeat Southwestern College 88-62.
The Lady Warriors held the Lady Builders to just 11 points in the final period, sealing the victory with strong defense and efficient shooting.
Sterling shot an impressive 54.4% from the field, compared to Southwestern's 39.6%. While the Lady Builders found some success from beyond the arc, shooting 34.8% (8-of-23) to Sterling's 25% (4-of-16), it wasn't enough to overcome Sterling's overall offensive dominance.
Key factors in the game were turnovers and rebounds. Southwestern committed 31 turnovers, leading to 37 points for Sterling, while the Lady Warriors limited their turnovers to 21. Sterling also controlled the boards, out-rebounding Southwestern 35-26, which provided crucial second-chance opportunities.
Sterling's Korynn Clason led all scorers with 27 points, while Alissa Heskamp added 17 points and five rebounds. Southwestern's Christy Wiebe recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Jerranay Echols contributed 13 points.
Despite Southwestern's strong second quarter, where they outscored Sterling 26-22, the Lady Warriors responded with a dominant fourth-quarter effort, closing the game on a 32-11 run.
