WINFIELD, Kan. – The Southwestern College women's basketball team fell to Tabor College, 66-44 at home. Despite a strong second half push, the Moundbuilders could not overcome a slow start.
Tabor College led throughout the game, holding Southwestern to just 7 points in the opening quarter. The Bluejays extended their lead to 27-15 by halftime, capitalizing on strong shooting and rebounding.
Southwestern's defense showed improvement in the second half, but Tabor College's offensive efficiency kept the Moundbuilders at bay. The Bluejays finished the game with a commanding 51-38 advantage in total rebounds, including 14 offensive boards.
Senior guard Christy Wiebe led Southwestern in scoring with 12 points, also contributing 9 rebounds. Haven Mathews followed closely with 13 points. Jerranay Echols added 2 points and 3 rebounds in limited minutes, including a crucial steal and fast-break layup late in the game.
For Tabor College, Kassidy Beam was the standout player, scoring 14 points on 4-of-9 shooting from beyond the arc. Lillie Veer contributed 13 points, while Kloe Bowin added 7 points and 7 rebounds. The Lady Builders are back in action This Saturday Jan 25 to face the Avila Eagles.
