WINFIELD, Kan. — Wyatt Bell scored 21 points and Southwestern College rolled past Spurgeon College 107-64 on Wednesday afternoon.
Southwestern took control early, building a 56-30 halftime lead behind efficient shooting and dominance on the glass. The Moundbuilders shot 54.5% from the field and outrebounded Spurgeon 56-17, turning the advantage into 21 second-chance points.
Bell went 7 of 13 from the floor and added six free throws to lead five Southwestern players in double figures. Evan Barber and Nigel John each scored 18 points, with John also grabbing 10 rebounds for a double-double. Zach Hildago added 14 points and 14 rebounds, while Isaac Hoberecht chipped in 12 points, including four 3-pointers. Eli Sawyers posted the first double-double of his career with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Southwestern stretched the margin throughout the second half, opening with a quick run and pushing the lead to as many as 51 points. The Moundbuilders finished with 64 points in the paint and 24 assists on 42 made baskets.
Jack Chamberlin and Bishop Duffield led Spurgeon with 15 points apiece. The Knights shot 35.9% from the field and were limited to just three second-chance points.
With the win, Southwestern improved to 9-4 overall and 3-4 in KCAC play, while Spurgeon fell to 10-3.
Southwestern returns to action Saturday, Jan. 3, at York, Nebraska, where it will face the York University Panthers. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
