Southwestern Rolls Past York Behind Barber's 23 Point Performance

YORK, Neb. — Evan Barber scored a game-high 23 points and Southwestern College used a balanced offensive attack and dominant work on the glass to roll past York University 91-64 on Friday afternoon at the Freeman Center.

Southwestern (10-4, 4-4 KCAC) led 44-34 at halftime and steadily pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Panthers 47-30 after the break to secure its second straight conference win.

Barber was potent from deep, knocking down 7 of 13 shots from beyond the arc while adding six rebounds and three assists. Wyatt Bell added 16 points and five rebounds, while Nigel John chipped in 16 points and seven boards in just 23 minutes of action.

Isaac Hoberecht filled up the stat sheet with 12 points, nine rebounds and eight assists, and Zach Hidalgo posted a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds as the Moundbuilders finished with a commanding 49-27 rebounding advantage.

Southwestern shot 47.2% from the field and connected on 14 of 29 three-point attempts, while holding York to just 38.3% shooting overall. The Moundbuilders also controlled the paint, scoring 34 points inside and tallying 21 second-chance points.

York (4-10, 2-6 KCAC) was led by Landon Miller's 12 points off the bench and 11 points from Shaun Armstrong. Jadin Johnson finished with 10 points, four assists and two blocks for the Panthers, who struggled offensively in the second half, shooting just 29.0% after halftime.

Southwestern pushed its lead to as many as 27 points in the final seconds and emptied the bench late, closing the game on a 15-4 run to cap off a wire-to-wire conference road victory.

The Moundbuilders will return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 7, when they host Evangel University at Stewart Fieldhouse in Winfield, Kansas. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
