STERLING, Kan. – The Southwestern College Moundbuilders fell to Sterling College, 20-3, in a KCAC matchup. Defensive struggles and a powerful Sterling offense proved too much for Southwestern to overcome.
The Moundbuilders (3-12, 1-6) took an early lead with a run in the first inning, but the Warriors (6-15, 1-8) responded with a six-run second inning and never looked back. Sterling added nine runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth to secure the victory.
Despite the loss, Southwestern produced eight hits. Lucas Dincola led the way at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Andrew Brautman added a double and scored a run, while Robert Dorsey and J.J. Cardinal each contributed hits, with Dorsey driving in a run. Hector Pantoja, Alex Markovich, and Nicholas Perez also recorded hits in the contest.
On the mound, Jackson Hensley made the start for Southwestern, allowing six runs on five hits in three innings while striking out two. The bullpen struggled, with David Bravo, Brayden Hart, Jackson Kramlich, and Jacob Burns all seeing action. The Moundbuilders' pitching staff combined for seven walks and allowed 15 hits.
Sterling's offense was led by Luis Morales, who had a standout performance, going 4-for-6 with five RBIs, including a double. Ethan Cardenas had a home run and four RBIs, while Anthony Dutro and Joshua Parmenter each drove in multiple runs.
Southwestern committed five errors in the loss, which helped Sterling capitalize on extra opportunities. The Moundbuilders will look to regroup as they continue KCAC play on Mar 15 Against Kansas Wesleyan University.
