WICHITA, Kan. — Southwestern College defeated Crowley's Ridge 3-1 on Saturday at the Friends University Tournament, winning 21-25, 25-14, 27-25, 25-21 to cap a 2-0 weekend.

Autumn Bennett paced the Builders with 13 kills, including the clincher in the fourth set. Libero Avery Riedel anchored the back row with a match-high 19 digs, and setter Natalie Blaufuss ran the offense with 26 assists, 11 digs and three aces.

After dropping the opening set amid a Crowley's Ridge serving surge, Southwestern took control in the second behind tough serving from Kalissa Ortega, who finished with five aces. The pivotal third set swung late: trailing 20-15, the Builders closed on a 12-5 run and stole it 27-25 on back-to-back kills from Mikki Johnson. Southwestern then rode the momentum in the fourth, with Bennett scoring three late kills and sealing it at 25-21.

Johnson added 11 kills and a block, and Ashlyn Tag chipped in 10 kills. The Builders finished with 12 aces and 66 digs while hitting .170 as a team.

Southwestern heads to Hesston College next, a team the Builders have beaten twice already this season. First serve is set for Monday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. in Hesston.
