WINFIELD, Kan. — Izzy McCool scored 24 points and Kansas Wesleyan pulled away after halftime to beat Southwestern 55-42 on Saturday in the Lady Builders' first home conference game of the season.
Southwestern (4-22, 0-20) matched the Coyotes early and was tied 8-8 after one quarter, but Kansas Wesleyan (12-14, 9-11) found its rhythm in the second period. The Coyotes outscored Southwestern 21-10 in the quarter to take a 29-18 lead into halftime.
Kansas Wesleyan stretched the margin in the third quarter, building its largest lead at 46-22 with 4:09 left in the period, then held on the rest of the way. Southwestern closed with its best quarter, outscoring the Coyotes 14-9 in the fourth, but couldn't get the deficit into single digits.
Kennedy Ford led Southwestern with 11 points. Martha De La Rosa added 10 points, and Macey Pond posted nine points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Emma Parker finished with six points, while Breanna Goad grabbed four rebounds and added two assists.
For Kansas Wesleyan, McCool added nine rebounds and went 10 of 12 at the free-throw line. Madison Lambert scored nine points off the bench, Odessa Ozuna finished with seven points and five assists, and Emma Gertken knocked down a pair of 3-pointers on her way to six points.
Southwestern returns to the road Wednesday, Feb. 18, for a conference game at No. 20 Friends University in Wichita, Kansas. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
