Moundbuilders Bounce Back in Final Game at York

York, Neb. — Southwestern College salvaged the finale of a three-game series against York University after dropping both ends of a doubleheader Friday.

York opened the series with a 10-0 win in the first game of Friday's doubleheader, using an eight-run sixth inning to pull away. Southwestern was held to five hits and did not score, while York racked up 11 hits, including a grand slam from Nathan Eisenmenger during a decisive 8-run sixth inning.

In the second game, York again controlled the action, defeating Southwestern 5-0. The Panthers scored four runs in the second inning and never looked back, while pitcher Elvin Ramos tossed a three-hit shutout and struck out 11.

Southwestern (12-30) responded in Saturday's series finale with a 7-3 victory to avoid the sweep. The Moundbuilders jumped out early and broke the game open with a three-run fifth inning, highlighted by home runs from Braden Roberts and Raisean Dorsey.

In the first inning, Sam Benz was able to score off a sacrifice fly from Senior Ayden Markovich, while the Panthers answered in the third behind a 2 RBI single to left field from Sam Hodoly.

An exciting fifth inning was sparked by a solo home run to left field from Freshman Braden Roberts. Sam Benz followed that up with a double to center field, his 16th of the season. Raisean Dorsey added more fuel, driving a 2-run shot to left field to put the Moundbuilders back on top at 4-2.

Nathan Perez started the 8th inning off with a double to right center before Brice Nittler drove him in with an RBI single. In the ninth, Garrett Richards drove in 2 runs with a single up the middle, as he closed the door on the Panthers and Southwestern cruised to the 7-3 victory.

Dorsey finished with two hits and two RBIs, while Garrett Richards added two RBIs. The Moundbuilders finished with 7 RBI's on 9 hits. Pitcher Peyton Ramsey earned the win, allowing three runs over five innings before the bullpen combined to shut out York over the final four frames.

York totaled 13 hits in the finale but stranded runners throughout, while Southwestern capitalized on key scoring opportunities late to secure the win.

Southwestern will return to action Tuesday, April 14, traveling to Oklahoma Wesleyan University in Bartlesville, Okla. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
