WINFIELD, Kan. —Southwestern closed out its 2026 season Tuesday with a doubleheader against Evangel (Mo.), falling 10-0 in five innings in the opener before dropping the finale 8-0.
Evangel set the tone early in game one, scoring four runs in the first inning. The Valor added runs in the second and third before pulling away with a three-run fifth inning to secure the run-rule victory.
The Moundbuilders were unable to find offensive momentum in the opener, finishing without a hit as Evangel recorded 16 hits in the contest.
In game two, Southwestern showed improvement at the plate, collecting three hits, including efforts from Jolie Boyd and Lainey Hardman. Despite the added production, the Moundbuilders were unable to push a run across.
Evangel broke through in the fourth inning of the nightcap with four runs to take control and added insurance runs late to complete the sweep.
Southwestern continued to compete defensively throughout both games, but timely hitting and strong pitching from Evangel proved to be the difference.
With the losses, the Moundbuilders conclude their 2026 campaign and will look ahead to building on their experience moving into next season.
