WINFIELD, Kan. — Former Southwestern College men's basketball player Andrew O'Brien has signed a professional contract with Tbilisi State University in Tbilisi, Georgia, continuing his overseas career after two seasons in Germany.

O'Brien, a 2024 Southwestern graduate, played for MLP Academics Heidelberg during the 2024-25 season before joining Uni Baskets Münster for the 2025-26 campaign.

He appeared in all 34 regular-season games for Münster, averaging 5.8 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. He finished as the team's third-leading rebounder, and the club praised his energy and effort in announcing his departure following the season.

Before beginning his professional career, O'Brien helped Southwestern reach three consecutive NAIA national tournaments and the 2023 KCAC Tournament Championship. As a senior point guard, he averaged 10.3 points, 8.3 rebounds and 6.6 assists per game, contributing as a scorer, facilitator and rebounder.

"Andrew was a great all-around player for us at Southwestern, and I'm really excited to see what's next for him," Southwestern head coach Matt O'Brien said. "He has the work ethic, talent and competitiveness to play professional basketball for a long time."

His impact extended to the defensive end, where his full-court pressure complemented his work on the glass. O'Brien earned Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week recognition during his final season with the Moundbuilders.

O'Brien is one of seven Southwestern players coached by Matt O'Brien to advance to professional basketball. That group includes Cameron Hunt, a 2019 graduate, and Lorenzo Martinez, a 2020 graduate.

"I'm proud of what he's accomplished already and excited to follow him as he begins this next season of his professional career," Matt O'Brien said.

For Andrew O'Brien, the move to Tbilisi marks another step in a professional career built on his work ethic that defined his time with the Moundbuilders.
