Box Score York, Neb. – The Southwestern College men's soccer team woke up early on Wednesday morning to travel north in preparation for another Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) battle at York University in York, Neb. An impressive performance by goalkeeper Josh Eibl helped lift the Builders to a 1-1 draw against the Panthers.
There was not much happening in the early stages of the match for SC, as they used their first chance to score the opening goal of the game. In the 33rd minute, Wilber Landaverde took a shot on goal that pinballed around in front of the net and was deflected into the back of the twine to make it 1-0 for Southwestern with just under 12 minutes left to go in the first stanza.
Unfortunately, it did not take long for York's offense to equalize after a corner kick in the 37th minute of the game, which made the score 1-1 with seven minutes and change to play before the intermission.
For the rest of the game, the Panthers dominated the game but could not strike the ball into the back of the net. They took a total of 17 shots in the latter stage of the match, and were unable to convert any of those opportunities. York outshot the Builders by an unbelievable 28-3 margin over the course of the tilt.
Joshua Eibl had a huge performance and helped the builders to earn a draw with 13 saves. There were 16 shots on goal in the bout by York, and just a single attempt found its way into the net. It was a remarkable effort by the German SC goalkeeper.
The Builders (3-3-1, 0-1-1 KCAC) will now prepare to face Bethany College on Saturday, September 24 in Lindsborg, Kan., as they hope to earn their first KCAC win of the season.
