Box Score FORT WORTH, Texas – On Saturday morning, the Southwestern College softball team played Arlington Baptist University for the second day in a row, hoping for a better result. Unfortunately, their hope for a win in game three was shattered after a third loss against the Patriots in the single tilt by a final of 11-3 in five innings. This story was delayed by a lack of statistical data.
The top of the first inning started in favor of the Builders, as they were able to put an unearned run on the scoreboard. Reagan Wright reached first base on an error by the first baseman, making is possible for Raven Favors to scurry home to take the lead for the Builders.
Unfortunately, the lead didn't hold for long, as the Patriots were able to score eleven runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Builders committed all four of their errors in the bottom of the first frame, and 12 hits were allowed in the stanza.
After a shocking first inning, the Builders were able to hold the Patriots for the rest of the game and even added two more runs on to the scoreboard the make final score more palatable at 11-3. Taylor Mesna doubled on a fly ball to center field and earned an RBI as Zoe Berger sprinted home. In addition, Taylor Mesna scored another run as she advanced home after an error by the Patriots catcher.
Southwestern had six hits in the game, and they were all tallied by different student-athletes. Favors (3B), Berger (1B), Mesna (2B), Natalie Davis (1B), Nina Celestino (1B) and Hannah Hlavenka (1B) tallied hits in the loss.
After a tough first inning, Raleigh Kramer settled down to shut out the Patriots in the next two innings before passing the ball off to Ryleigh Branstetter, who finished a scoreless bottom of the fourth inning.
The Builders (0-5, 0-0 KCAC) will now prepare to face Mid America Christian University on February 15. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. in Oklahoma City. After a winless start, the Builders get a chance to bring home their first win of the 2023 season.
